Chris Samwell

Managing Director

30 years consultancy experience working with over 800 clients producing user-focused designs meeting commercial challenges. Expertise covers product development from concept to full manufacturing solutions with over 20 patents for innovation. Chris has worked with The Manufacturing Advisory Service, The Business Growth Service and The Technology Innovation Futures Programme to provide independent diagnostic support and business mentoring to UK companies, improving innovation, embedding design strategy and building growth in these organisations.

Ben Irvine

Design Director

14 years consultancy experience in developing technology-led products. Ben has an active interest in emerging technologies with expertise in Mechanical Engineering, System Design, DFM and Manufacturing Strategy. Providing best practice to help clients deliver better products by design. Responsible for the design and development of the Zephyr Air Quality Sensor with EarthSense Ltd and winners of the BEEA Design Team of the Year. Ben is involved with Special Interest Group: 3D printing & Additive Manufacturing in Healthcare, and was awarded a Med-Tech Innovation award for Developing low-cost manufacturing processes.

Founded by Chris Samwell, Bluefrog Design began in 1990 under the name 3CD. The aim – to provide multi-disciplinary design expertise. Over the next 10 years we developed a broad portfolio including air purification systems for Mountain Breeze, working with the kitchen and bathroom market, power tools for Kango, and toys for Palitoy, Mattel and Bluebird.

We are proud that our first award was the prestigious Design Council Award for developing the NT50 Power Shower Pump for Newteam, which was still in production 18 years later.

Renamed Bluefrog Design in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium and our fresh approach to innovative design, we have grown to include international clients such as McDonalds, Damixa, Hüppe and Duschalux, as well as engineering cutting-edge virtual and augmented reality products for I-Med and Cybermind BV Netherlands.

Since 2010 we have been heavily involved in developing ground-breaking products for high value manufacturing, particularly for the industrial and medical sectors, providing in depth industrial design and engineering expertise for businesses such as GEA, Earthsense, 3DX-Ray and Guidance Marine.
